Far, far away
It's sometimes hard to live in NY when all those issues and hearings and whatnot are happening in DC.
So: I'm blind here! There was a hearing about ICANN today before the House Committee on Small Business.
What happened?

Yes, I'm in the same bind. After years of feeling left out, I've simply convinced myself that what happens in DC doesn't really matter. I know this will be hard for you, having lived in DC for so long, but you'll really like offloading the DC issues to some other unfortunate soul.
… and it is even worse for those of us outside the US. After all, whatever is being decided in DC with regard to ICANN will have consequences far beyond the US borders.
